Forestry companies might sue a jurisdiction for inadequate fire response. An urban population, faced with the diminished air quality of repeated wildfires, can throw political agendas into an uproar. The ripple effects are countless: forestry or oil and gas companies must protect their assets; large land-users must satisfy regulatory and compliance pressures; governments need to reassure citizens that they can mitigate the ecological footprint of industrial or corporate activity.
